on-targetAll of us have dreams and desires but few of us actually surrender to the desire of going after what we actually want to achieve and find ourselves instead committing success suicide.

The 5 signs to watch out for are :-

1. SELF DEPRECIATION. You will have heard dozens of people you know say things like, “I would love to be in business for myself but I’d fail if I tried.” Or “I do not have the brains for that” or “I lack the experience to be able to do something like that.” The last thing you need to be concerned about when going for a new goal in life is STOP YOURSELF BEFORE YOU EVEN START!

2. “SECURITY-ITIS.” Even with the economy the way it is, you will still here people say “I’ve got security where I am.” and THAT will STOP you from moving forward and seeing new opportunities. There is a great book Who Moved My Cheese by Spencer Johnson M.D. that will help you view change as inevitable and that it is actually who moved my cheesehealthy to keep looking for new opportunity.

3. COMPETITION. If there is competition in the market place for what you have to offer, that is a GOOD thing. However people starting out on a new business venture often say things like “The market is already saturated.” They are the same type of people who hop from one business to the next looking for “ground floor opportunities” and end up getting nowhere very fast because nothing had time to grow. Competing for a market share makes good business sense, it shows that there are profits to be made.

4. PARENTAL “GUIDANCE.” It’s a strange observation but when our children are very young, we spend time asking them what they want to be when they grow up. WHATEVER the answer is we accept it, fireman, doctor, teacher, pop star etc. However when your TEENAGER or COLLEGE STUDENT are choosing a CAREER very often the nonchalant response to the young age answer suddenly becomes a huge issue if they see themselves embarking on something we as parents do not think is a good idea. Of course parents want their children to have success, but very often parental “guidance” can stop early goals from even developing.

5. RESPONSBILITY TO YOUR FAMILY. When you have no responsibilities in life to anyone other than yourself, then self focus, goal setting and results can only impact on one person … you. In general mos families will always want to be supportive of changes for the better of all concerned, however sometimes FEAR of FAILURE & LOSING “everything” you have around you can be the biggest stumbling block of all.

The only way to make your goals into a reality is to surrender to them and let the desire take over. Successful people have their eyes focused on a goal and this provides energy. When you set a goal and resolve to work towards it you will find new energy, ideas and ways in which to achieve them that you never thought existed.

magic of thinking bigThere is a great book by David J Schwartz called the Magic of Thinking Big & he demonstrates two characters that represent two people that you & I both know in real life.

He called them Tom & Jack, both are comparable in all respects except one, Tom has a desirable goal, Jack does not.

Tom has a crystal clear image of what he wnats to be, he visualises himself as a corporation vice president ten years from now. Tom has surrendered to his goal and his sub conscious mind signals to him, saying “do this” or “do not do that it is not in line with your goal.” The image is so clear in Tom’s mind it has become real. By having a clear goal Tom focuses on specific goal achieving activities, what suit to wear, what to say at the next conference, what to read and what steps to take.  Tom easily recognises distractions that would steer him off course and knows how to stay focused on the end result.

Jack on the other hand is lacking in a clear goal, a clear focus and is easily distracted and easily confused. His actions reflect no personal policy and he guesses at what to do. Lacking consistency of purpose, a mission in life and a clear goal of where he is headed, he is doomed to mediocrity.

To ACCOMPLISH SOMETHING, you must PLAN TO ACCOMPLISH SOMETHING.
