It would be easy to find ourselves caught up by the doom and gloom of the economic turmoil, the job insecurities and the bad news that dominates our newspapers and television every day but each one of us has eight choices which you can make that will create a different outcome in all areas of your life.
1. Choose to grow and develop personally. This sounds simple but it actually often misunderstood as many wish to grow but few choose to grow by taking action such as learning new skills, exercising, saving money etc. Personal development is a never ending journey of personal growth.
2. Choose to always treat others with respect. We come across all sorts of people, many of whom treat us badly, they may hold grudges, shout at you for no reason or even tell lies about you for years and years but when they lie, we tell the truth, when they cheat we play by the rules. In the short term this can seem to be unrewarded but in the long-run we will win.
3. Choose to break a bad habit. Tackle the biggest one first and meet it head on. If you are not sure which habit you need to break, ask a friend or family member, you will soon find out. Then spend every effort you can muster to break that bad habit and then look to replace it with a good habit. Stop smoking, get out of debt, lose your excess weight, the power is yours to choose.
4. Choose to work smarter not harder. Many people seem to work out of balance, they carry too much burden on themselves to always be the first to arrive and the last to leave, they volunteer for every task and end up having mountains of work and pressure and ignoring their health. Take stock of your working time, stop wasting time doing unproductive tasks and choose to free up more quality time for life.
5. Choose to see your work as a way to help others and not a way to make money. Spend time helping others to grow and your finances will grow with it.
6. Choose to become balanced spiritually, emotionally and physically. Life is enjoyed at it’s highest levels when you have achieved a balance of all three of these major areas, goal setting should include far more than simply ”winning the lottery” or “making more money” spend more time achieving balance and the rest will come easier to you.
7. Choose to sow more than you reap. There are many takers in the world no matter how much you can give to some people it will never be enough, they will just keep taking. Your life will be better as someone who gives, at the time of writing this blogpost Comic Relief 2009 has just powered it’s way to a record year of people giving during times of recession, give your time, your money and your kindness.
8. Choose to make family time more important more of the time. Your immediate family is the most important group of people you will ever belong to yet more and more people are spending less and less time as a family. Make a decision today to grow your relationship with your parents, siblings, spouse and children these are choices you will never forget.
